Male vs Female reproductive systems Flashcards
Reproduction
is the process by which organisms give rise to fertile offsprings. you can have asexual and sexual reproduction
Sexual Reproduction
mixing of half the genetic information from two parents to form similar but not identical offspring leading to variation.
fertilisation
fusion of male and female gametes to produce a new organism
what are the main parts of male reproductive system?
- penis
- testes
- scrotum
- seminal vesicle
- prostate gland
- prepuce
- Urinary bladder
what are the main parts of the female reproductive system?
- uterus
- fallopian tubes
- uterine cavity
- cervix
- vagina
- endometrium
what is the role of the male reproductive system?
- spermatogenesis
- insemination
how many testicles do bulls have?
2
How many testicles do sheep have?
1
How does Sterilization work in ruminants
crush testicular cord
testosterone is
secreted by endocrines
spematozoom
is secreted by exocrine
leydig cells
- testosterone production and liberation since foetal life
2. invovled in spermatogenesis
sertoli cell
- support of germ cells
- helps in immune defenses (phagocytosis) of degenerative cells
- Maturation and migration of germ cells
- Inhibin synthesis
Testosterone
creates the sexual differenciation of genital tact and secondary sexual characteristics
95% of the blood testosterone originate from testicles and the rest from the adrenal gland
Name 3 types of glands in the male reproductive system
- Seminal Glands
2.Bulbo-uretals
Prostrate
seminal glands secrete
- sperm which consists of spermatozoa and seminal plasma (66%) (semen)
Bulbo uretrals glands secrete
- alkaline mucous secretion (in the urethra)
- lubrification (during sexual inter course)
- invovled in immune defense
Prostate
Zinc, citic acid,proteases….
what is the role of the female reproductive system?
- sperm deposit
2. Egg and embryo development
Cow female reproductive system is composed with
- uterus -uterus horns
- body
- cervix
- infundibulum
Chicken female reproductive system is composed of
- cloaca
- vagina
- utures
- ovary where yolk is formed
name 4 types of uterus and in which animal they are present
- Bipartite uterus (cow)
2.Uterus Bipartite (sheep)
3.Modified bipartite udder
4.uterus bicornuate
the type of uterus influences the animals teat number.
Follicles
oocyte + cells stroma
in an ovary you can have primary, primordial, and secondary follicles
describe the sequence of events for corpus luteum formation
- inside the ovary you have ovum which develop primordial follicles around itself and turn into primary follicles which get larger and become develping follicles until the follicle reaches mature stage where it would burst liberating the ovum where it becomes an early corpus luteum then fully developed corpus luteum then corpus albicans.
