Male Reproductive System Flashcards
A system of ducts function and structure
Function: transport, store, and assist in maturation of sperm
Structure: epididymis, ductus deferens, ejaculatory ducts, urethra
Accessory sex glands function and structure.
Function: secrete most of the liquid portion of semen
Structure: seminal vesicles, prostate, bulbourethral glands
Supporting structures function and structure
Function: delivers sperm into the female reproductive tract supported by the scrotum
Structure: prostate, bulbourethral glands, penis
The spermatic cord is a supporting structure of the male reproductive system that ascends out of the scrotum it includes
Ductus (vas) deferens, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, nerves, and epididymis
Organ and function scrotum
Supports the testes; has the scrotal septum which divides it into two sacs, each containing a single testis
Organ: testes and function
Produce sperms within seminiferous tubules and secrete male sex hormone testosterone
Organ: epididymis and function
The site of sperm maturation, the process by which sperm acquire motility(learn how to swim) and the ability to fertilize an ovum
Organ: ductus deferens and function
Conveys sperm during sexual arousal from the epididymis toward the urethra
Organ: ejaculatory ducts and function
Is formed by the Union of the duct from the seminal Vesicle and the ampulla of the ductus deferens
Organ: urethra and function
Serves as a passageway for both semen and urine traveling down the length of the penis
Organ: seminal vesicles and function
Produce an alkaline, viscous fluid that nourishes and activates sperm
Organ: prostate and function
Is inferior to the urinary bladder and surrounds the prostatic urethra; secretes a milky, slightly acidic fluid
Organ: bulbourethral glands and function
Secrete mucus that lubricates the end of the penis and the lining of the urethra to decrease the number of sperm damaged during ejaculation
Organ: penis and function
Contains the urethra; is a passageway for the ejaculation of semen and the excretion of urine
