Male Reproductive Anatomy Flashcards
Testes
Produce sperm, testosterone, inhibin.
Epididymis
Region of testes where sperm mature.
Vas Deferens
Tube that leads sperm into the body for ejaculation.
Scrotum
Muscular sac to house the testes outside the body.
(2-3 degrees cooler temp for sperm production)
Urethra
Tube that transports both urine and semen.
Glans Penis
Nerve endings on penis end.
Seminal Vesicle(s)
Base of bladder where the vas deferens enters the prostate.
3 secretions: fructose, progastaglandins (opens the female cervix to allow sperm in) and sodium bicarbonate: base to neutralize the acidity of the female part.
Prostate gland
Encircles the urethra, squeeze/push as the prostrate is the “force” behind ejaculation.
2 secretions: sodium bicarbonate and milky fluid to aim sperm motility.
Cowpers gland (bulbourethral)
Attached to the urethra below the prostate.
1 secretion: a clear mucus to clean the urethra before ejaculation.
Sertoli Cells
Support growing sperm.
Seminiferous Tubule
Produce sperm.
Sperm
Male gamete (n)= 1 set of chromosomes.
Interstitial Cells
Produce testosterone.
Flagella (sperm)
Sperm motility (propeller)
Midpiece (sperm)
Mitochondria= Energy generator.
Consumes fructose.
