Male Reproduction Histology Flashcards
Cyclops nucleus, columnar cells extensive processes surrounding spermatogenic cells, forms BTB.
Sertoli cells
What cells replicate and differentiatie into mature sperm?
Spermatogonia (immature) on basal lamina
Spermatids (most mature) apical portion of sertoli cell near lumen
What cells nurse sperm and fxn in excchange of transport of nutrients endocrine/exocrine secretion and phagocytosis?
sertoli
What cells undergo mitosis?
Spermatogonia, specifically type A which turn into type B to undergo meiotic prophase into primary spermatocytes
What do spermatocyes undergo?
Two meiotic divisions INSIDE BTB
Primary SC, secondary SC, spermatids
Spermiation?
Release mature spermatids to lumen
Sperm transport path?
Straight tubules Rete testis Efferent ductules Epididymis Ductus deferens Ejaculatory ducct
Epi of vas deferens
PSCE with few stereocilia, supported by CT lamina propria w/ elastic fibers
Inner and outer longitudinal mm and middle circle layer
What makes up the epididymis?
PSCE with long stereocilia
Principal cells are columnar going from lumen to basal lamina with stereocilia
Stem cells of principal cells also found
What do seminal vesicles produce and what epi?
alkaline secretion in fructose and prostaglandins
~70% of semen
PSCE no stereocilia
Prostate gland zones?
Central: surroundds ejac ducts ~25% tissue
Peripheral zone: surrounds central makes up ~70% where most carcinomas are
Transitional: ~5% surrounds prostatic urethra, parenchymal cells undergo hyperplasia, BPH
Periurethral zone
Epithelium Prostate gland? Secretion?
SCE or PSCE
secretes Zn rich alkaline fluid neutralizing acidic vagina also contains glycoproteins and Ca depositis due to corpora amylacea
Bulbourethral gland?
secretes preseminal fluid to lubricate urethra neutralizing urine
Compound tubuloalveolar muous glands SCE
Controlled by testosterone
