what is a urethral caruncle
a small, soft, red, smooth swelling at the urethral orifice (inflammatory pedunculated or polypoid lesion) which bleeds regularly
often caused by meatal prolapse

mostly asymptomatic but may be tender and bleeds a lot, can ulcerate

most common in women post menopause, extremely rare in men
urethral caruncle pathology
inflamed granulation tissue covered by an intact but easily friable mucosa - can be urothelium or squamous
what is condyloma acuminatum
a benign, contagious STI (genital wart) - present on the mucocutaneous surface of the genital area
assoc w HPV 6 (sometimes 11)
condyloma acuminatum epi
young, sexually active men
condyloma acuminatum appearance
soft, flesh-coloured cauliflower like, raised/flat lesion - may occur singly or in moruloid clusters
what should be suspected if condyloma acuminatum is found in a child
sexual abuse
what is condyloma acuminatum assoicated with
koilocytosis - squamous epithelial cells with perinuclear cavitation and nuclear features of low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion
