Fluphenazine (Prolixin ®)
Typical antipsychotic given IM every 2 weeks in the gluteus.
MOA: blocking postsynaptic dopamine D2 receptors in the limbic, cortical system and basal ganglia.
Adverse effects:
▪︎ Dystonia (Involuntary muscle contractions that cause repetitive or twisting movements)
▪︎ Tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial movements)
▪︎ Tremors
▪︎ Perioral tremors
Risperadol ® (Risperadone)
Atypical antipsychotic taken by mouth or IM every 2 weeks.
MOA: blocking postsynaptic dopamine and seretonin receptors in the limbic, cortical system and basal ganglia
Adverse effects:
▪︎ orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure when standing from lying or seated position)
▪︎ gynecomastia (enlarged breast in men)
▪︎ galactorrhea (lactation)

Kemadrim ® (antipasmodic tablets/procyclidine)
Anticholingeric drug that treats extrapyradmidal symptoms such as dystonia, parkinsonism and akathisia.
MOA: block and inhibit activity of acetylcholine which is excitatory in nature.
Adverse effects:
▪︎ constipation
▪︎ drug mouth
▪︎ blurred vision
Cogentin ® (Benztropine)
Anticholingeric drug that treats extrapyradmidal symptoms such as dystonia, parkinsonism and akathisia.
MOA: block and inhibit activity of acetylcholine which is excitatory in nature.
Adverse effects:
▪︎ drooling
▪︎ drowsiness
▪︎ blurred vision
▪︎ dry mouth
Haloperidol (Haloxen ®/Serenace ®)
Typical antipsychotic used to treat positive symptoms of Parkinson such as hallucinations & delusion.
MOA: Blocks postsynaptic dopamine receptors
Adverse Effects:
▪︎ dystonia (Involuntary muscle contractions that cause repetitive or twisting movements)
▪︎ tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial movements)
▪︎ tremors
▪︎ perioral tremors
Largactil ® (Chlorpromazine)
Typical antipsychotic used to treat various problems such as severe depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or behavioral disturbances. Also used to relief nausea and vomiting.
MOA: Blocks dopamine, histamine and muscarinic receptors
Side effects:
▪︎ bedwetting
Depixol ® (Flupentixol)
Typical antipsychotic IM given every 2 weeks used forthe treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses.
MOA: blocking postsynaptic dopamine D2 receptors in the limbic, cortical system and basal ganglia.
Adverse effects:
▪︎ dystonia (Involuntary muscle contractions that cause repetitive or twisting movements)
▪︎ tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial movements)

Diazepam (Valium ®)
Benzodiazapine that acts as an anxiolytic (reduces anxiety) given to epileptics or alcohol withdrawal syndrome to relax the muscles and prevent seizures.
MOA: CNS depressants which induce feelings of calm (anxiolysis), drowsiness and sleep. They act helping to bind the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at various GABA receptors throughout the CNS.
Side effects:
▪︎ headache
▪︎ nausea
▪︎ can suppress respiratory system
Epilium ® (Sodium valporate)
An anticonvulsant given as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder
MOA: potentiation of the inhibitory action of gamma amino-butyric acid (GABA)
Side effects:
▪︎ weight gain
▪︎ tremors
▪︎ dry mouth
▪︎ thinning hair
200 mg is silver package
300 mg is green package
500 mg is purple package

Clonazapam (Klonopin ®)
A benzodiazapines used for prevent and treat panic disorders, anxiety disorders and seizures.
MOA: CNS depressants which induce feelings of calm (anxiolysis), drowsiness and sleep. They act byhelping to bind the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at various GABA receptors throughout the CNS.
Side effects:
▪︎ headache
▪︎ nausea
▪︎ can suppress the respiratory system
Depakote (Valporic acid)
Anticonvusant that is used as a mood stabilizer for mania in bipolar disorder or depression.
MOA: reduce or prevent manic episodes by increasing the amount of a chemical called Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain.
Side effects:

Tegretol CR ® (Carbamazepine)
An anticonvulsant is used as a mood stabilizer for mania in bipolar disorder or depression.
MOA: Increase dopamine turnover and increase GABA transmission

MOA: Reduces dopamine and glutamate but increases inhibitory GABA
