Making Salts Flashcards
1
Q
How can you tell when an acid has been neutralised?
A
The excess solid will sink to the bottom of the flask
2
Q
How do you make a soluble salt?
A
Be reacting acid with either a metal or an insoluble base
3
Q
How do you create a soluble salt using an alkali?
A
You have to get just the right amount of alkali in order to neutralise the acid. You then leave the salt to crystallise as normal
4
Q
What type of reaction do you have to use to make an insoluble salt?
A
A precipitation reaction
5
Q
What is a common use of a precipitation reaction?
A
Removing poisonous ions from drinking water
