Troughton v MPC 1987
Facts: D was drunk and got into a taxi and didn’t give full directions to the taxi driver - when the driver didn’t take him all the way home he jumped out and refused to pay
Held: (odd) There wasn’t a valid service because he hadn’t completed his journey, when the taxi driver got him home he would be entitled to that payment
Aziz 1993
Facts: D, a taxi passenger felt they were massively overcharged and refused to pay
Held: Court said he was taken home so the service was complete, D still needed to pay
Vincent 2001
Facts: D left hotel without paying bills because he had discussed with the owner that he can’t pay now but he will pay later but then when he left the hotel argued he left the spot
Held: The agreement changed the spot - not guilty
Hammond 1982
Facts: given a fraudulent cheque - let go because they believed he paid
Held: despite fraudulent payment you can’t make off if you’ve been allowed to leave
