consensus politics
A period of agreement between major parties – for example 1951 -79
adversarial politics
Takes place when one takes the opposite opinion to that of the other (usually the government) and there is no consensus over politics. For example, Margaret thatcher in 1979.
government
Sits in the house of commons, the party that won the election, decisions made within the party. All opposition parties will be against government eg labour
left and right wing
L Labour – believe in nationalisation and the state owning everything. Aligned with socialism. Eg extreme labour
R Privatisation and capitalism – don’t like state ownership and want competition in society. Eg conservatives
Parliament
The highest legislature, consisting of the Sovereign, the House of Lords, and the House of Commons, includes every MP
Government
