Q

How can explosives be directly stimulated?

A

Electrical
mechanical (percussion) - leads to the direct explosion of low explosive propellants
Deflagration/detonation of another explosive

Q

How does percussion work?

A

Percussion caused by localised heating upon decreased volume
the hammer compresses the voids of air, in result the gases get hot and initiate explosion

percussion can compress air to such an extent to generate sufficient heat to cause cracks in explosive material

Q

How does stabbing work?

A

needle stabs explosive with very small surface area
relies on a friction based approach as needle propagates into explosive material
the needle may get bent causing a misfire
