Dispossession is land taken without permission and on the 7th of February 1788 Phillip took some land that belonged to the aboriginals and the Tories strait islanders without there permission to give it to them and started to build houses and fences for animals to live in.
How did the Europeans treat the aboriginal people?
The Europeans didn’t treat the aboriginals very nicely, they treated them more like part of the land and not like real people.
What is the wiradjuri war? What happened?
The wiradjuri people where cautious about the Europeans. Within 3 years the Europeans encourage migration schemes which encourages new settlers to come to Australia, which forced the wiradjuri people off there land. In return they would kill the Europeans livestock and destroyed equipment. People split into groups and one of the leaders were windradyne and was captured by the Europeans in 1824 which made the relationship between the 2 tribes worse. In March 1824 the wiradjuri people started stealing crops and this led settlers and soldiers to believe they could take whatever they needed for survival and then if any aboriginal was seen in the Europeans area was killed. The killing continued for several months with a death toll of over 100 wiradjuri people.
What is the black war and what happened?
When the colony expanded they came into contact with the aboriginals. Aboriginal people responded to lass of their land by killing the settlers cattle and sheep for food. Eventually governor Arthur declared martial law in 1828 resulting in widespread killing of the Tasmanian aboriginal people which eventually resulted in removal of the surviving aboriginal people to nearby Flinders island in bass straits.
What is the myall creek massacre and what happened?
In May 1838 40 members of the wirrayaraay people moved to myall creek. On the 10 of June 1838 convicts and ex-convicts were looking for aboriginal people who killed a European shepherd, some of the aboriginals left to hide while others stayed. The ones that stayed ended up getting found and brought to the myall creek to get massacred and when the other aboriginals came back they saw all of the people who stayed dead. On the 27 of November 1838 the eleven men who killed the aboriginals were tried with murder.
