Make it stick Flashcards
What are the three stages of learning?
Encoding, consolidation, and retrieval
What are the two modes of thinking?
Focused and Diffuse
What is focused mode of thinking?
Focused thinking is a highly attentive state of mind where the brain uses its best concentration abilities in the prefrontal cortex to ignore all extraneous information.
What is diffuse mode of thinking?
Diffuse thinking is all about distractions. It happens when you let your mind wander freely, making connections at random. The diffuse mode of thinking does not happen any one area of the brain, but rather all over.
Your brain has the opportunity to connect the dots and link neural processes.
How many synapses in every brain?
10¹⁴ or (100 – 1000 trillion)
Which part of the brain is important for formation of memories of events and facts?
The Hippocampus
Which part of the brain is involved in mediating the effects of emotional arousal on the strength of the memory of an event?
The Amygdala
Which part of the brain plays a role in procedural memory (i.e., routine, “practiced” skills), and motor learning?
The Cerebellum
