Major Salivary Glands Flashcards
Parotid gland
25% saliva volume, largest salivary gland. Location on both sides of the mouth, below the external auditory meatus in front of both ears
Parotid papilla
Marks the duct opening of the parotid gland
Submandibular gland
60-65% of total saliva volume. Located under the jaw, in the submandibular fossa.
Submandibular gland
60-65% of total saliva volume. Located under the jaw, in the submandibular fossa.
Sublingual
5-10% of total saliva volume. Smallest. Lies on the floor of the mouth under the tongue.
Bartholin duct
A duct for the sublingual salivary gland
Ducts of rivinus
Connects the sublingual gland to the floor of the mouth. Numerous ducts.
Wharton’s duct
A thin tube where saliva flows. Opens under the anterior part of the tongue, lateral to the lingual fraenum at the sublingual caruncle
What is a bartholin duct
A duct for the sublingual salivary gland
What is the sublingual fold
Ridge of tissue on each side of the floor of the mouth - contains ducts opening from sublingual gland
Sublingual caruncle
Openings of submandibular and sublingual gland. Small papilla at the anterior of each end of sublingual fold.
Stensons duct
The duct for the route of saliva to take place like the parotid gland
