Major Muscle Groups Flashcards
What are the flexors of the arm?
Anterior.
Biceps, brachialis, coracobrachialis.
Innervated by musculocutaneous nerve.
What are the extensors of the arm?
Posterior.
Triceps.
Innervated by radial nerve.
What are the three compartments of the forearm?
Flexors - anterior, innervated by median and ulnar nerves.
Brachioradialis - posterior, innervated by musculocutaneous nerve.
Extensors - posterior, innervated by radial nerve.
What are the three components of the glutes?
G. Maximus - extension, innervated by inferior gluteal nerve.
G. Medius - abduction, innervated by superior gluteal nerve.
G. Minimus - abduction, innervated by superior gluteal nerve.
What are the three components of the thigh?
Hamstrings - sciatic nerve.
Quadriceps - femoral nerve.
Adductors - obturator nerve.
What are the three compartments of the leg?
Dorsiflexors (anterior).
Plantarflexors (posterior).
Evertors (lateral).
What are the actions of the hand and foot?
Hand - precision.
Foot - supports walking, maintains arches of the foot.
Define agonist and antagonist.
Agonist - contracts, the prime mover.
Antagonist - relaxes.
Define stabiliser and synergist.
Stabiliser - fixes the joint in place.
Synergist - augments agonist action.
Why are flexors in the leg posterior?
The lower limbs rotate in the womb.
