Louisiana Purchase

A

In 1803, the U.S. purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million. Which means the size of the United States just doubled and the United States now shares a border with Texas.

Neutral Ground
Agreement

A

The U.S. and Spain did not agree on the border between Texas and Louisiana, so they decided that the land in between the two spots they thought Texas ended neither country would control. Which ended up being a bad idea because outlaws, smugglers and thieves went to this area because neither countries authorities could go into this area.

Adams-Onis Treaty

A

In 1819, the U.S. and Spain signed the Adams-Onis Treaty, ending the Neutral Ground Agreement. The U.S. got Florida and the border they wanted and Mexico got a promise from the U.S. that they would never try to take Texas away.

The Battle of Medina

A

General Arredondo, the Spanish overwhelmed the Republican Army. They were all killed during the battle or executed after it. As a result, Texas remained under Spanish control for another seven years.
