6-8 Weeks:

GM: Head lag reduced; Moving all limbs
FM: Eyes starting to track objects together (fixes and follows); Pulls at clothes
Lan: Babbling; Recognises mum’s voice
Soc: Social Smile; Establishes eye contact
6 months:
GM, FM, Language & Social
GM: Full head control; Sits with support; Rolls over when supine
FM: Palmar grasp; Palm-to-palm transfer
Lan: Repitition of sounds “da da da”
Soc: Stranger anxiety develops
12 Months:
GM, FM, Language & Social
GM: Stands alone; first independent steps with one hand held
FM: Stacks blocks; bangs blocks together; Pincer Grip
Lan: Speaks 2-3 words (aside from mama and dada); Associates words with meaning (e.g. demonstrated by responding to the word ‘no’); Knows own name
Soc: Drinks with a cup
18 Months***
GM, FM, Lan & Soc
GM: Walks independently; Jumps; Climbs steps with support (e.g. railing)
FM: Bluids tower of 3-4 blocks
Lan: 10-25 words; says own name; knows names of familiar people; knows names of parts of the body, etc.
Soc: Can self-feed with spoon
3.5 years:
GM, FM, Lan & Soc
GM: Rides tricycle
FM: Copies a circle
Lan: Speaks in sentences; Follows 3-step instructions
Soc: Can dress/undress self except for buttons and laces
What is the importance of 18-month milestones?
This is the stage at which global delays beome particularly apparent - need to be readily acted upon
Why might language not be developing properly in otherwise normally-developing child?
Repeated bouts of otitis media, prolonged bouts, etc.
Adjusting for prematurity?
SHould be done till age 2 years
E.g. if 2 weeks prem - plot all measurements at the ‘age’ MINUS the 2 weeks
