Eventually, the Fool faces two new challenges. It experiences the powerful urge for sexual union with another. Before, it was mainly self-centered. Now it feels the balancing tendency, pictured in the Lovers (6), to reach out and become half of a loving partnership. It yearns for relationship. It also needs to decide upon its own beliefs. It is well enough to conform while it learns and grows, but at some point, it must determine its own values if it is to be true to itself. It must start to question received opinion. A

By the time the Fool becomes an adult, it has a strong identity and a certain mastery over himself. Through discipline and will-power, it has developed an inner control, which allows him to triumph over its environment. The Chariot (7) represents the vigorous ego that is the Fool’s crowning achievement so far. On Card 7, we see a proud, commanding figure riding victoriously through his world. One is in visible control of oneself and all one surveys. For the moment, the Fool’s assertive success is all it might wish, and it feels a certain self-satisfaction and the assured confidence of youth. 8, Strength: Upright http://learntarot.com/journey.htm

A

Over time, life presents the Fool with new challenges, some that cause suffering and disillusionment. It has many occasions to draw on the quality of Strength (8). It is pressed to develop its courage and resolve and find the heart to keep going despite setbacks. The Fool also discovers the quiet attributes of patience and tolerance. It realizes the willful command of the Chariot must be tempered by kindliness and the softer power of a loving approach. At times, intense passions surface, just when the Fool thought it had everything, including itself, under control.

Group 1 of Major Arcana, Upright: The 3 Steps to Empowerment (Number 1 Through 7)

A

When your Tarot reading features one of the twenty-two cards that belong to the Major Arcana, the discussion will fixate on your relationship to power. Is it in your hands, out of your hands or being properly utilized regardless of control?

The Tarot is divided into three sections: The Minor Arcana is a set of forty suited cards, led by Aces and followed by the numbers two through ten. Following these are the sixteen court cards: a King, Queen, Knight and Page for each suit. All of these cards are in service of the Tarot deck’s most important and powerful cards - the Major Arcana.

Each of the Major Arcana cards is distinct and carries a specific, powerful message. At the core of each one is a lesson in how to manifest the energies of the cosmos. The cards in the Major Arcana speak about many subjects and offer unique perspectives, but the theme of all these cards is total empowerment.

The result of any Tarot reading featuring a card from the Major Arcana should be for your reader to give you a clearer sense of harnessing and actualizing your own control over destiny and satisfaction.

1, The Magician, Upright: The card numbered one is the epitome of power and personal control. When this card appears in reference to another person, it represents a liar who has successfully begun a con. When the Magician refers to you, the reading is an indication that you have all the tools at your disposal for doing what you want.

2, The High Priestess, Upright: Card number two is the High Priestess. A sense of empowerment like no other is yours when you possess knowledge. Having the answer is its own reward. There is a great satisfaction in being able to share what you know, but you may learn it is often wise to wait until asked to tell it like it is.

When the High Priestess represents someone else, your reading indicates that a person close to you knows a lot more than he or she is letting on. People who are not good at lying learn to be good at leaving out important information. When you are the High Priestess in your own reading, you are empowered by knowing lots more than the competition.

3, The Empress, Upright: when you are able to treat yourself to the good life, to nice things, to enhancing your material world, your inner Empress is in charge. Expect to see the number three card in your Tarot reading at times when your desires are leading you to conquer old mental and emotional blocks.

When the Empress card represents someone else in your reading, this could indicate the chance that a buyer has materialized for something you want to sell. Are you looking to part with some valuable property? If the Empress represents you in your Tarot reading, you are enjoying the power to choose what is right for you and to buy it.

4, The Emperor, Upright: Card number four of the Tarot deck holds a central seat of power. It is one thing to be empowered to make choices that move your life ahead. But it is another thing to have power and hold sway over the fate of others. The Emperor is a card with this type of potency.

When this card represents another person in your Tarot reading, it means that your life is being controlled in part by a parent, partner, boss or other authority figure. When this card appears as an indication of your fate, you will have the ultimate answer to your own destiny through your actions.

5, The Hierophant, Upright: if your involvement with a group is growing, the Hierophant card empowers you to find a good place for yourself. This is the Tarot’s number five card and it oversees all of your interactions when you take on the identity of a group or organization.

If the Hierophant represents another person in your reading, you are discovering a new hero who speaks what you feel. If this card represents you, your membership is opening doors.

6, The Lovers, Upright: This card is the Tarot’s card of partnership. Card number six indicates that finding yourself can often be an excursion as a union. This card empowers you to learn more about yourself through your interactions with another person and to grow more empowered because of it. The Lovers card always refers to both of you.

7, The Chariot, Upright: the Tarot’s cycle of empowerment peaks at card number seven. The Chariot arrives in a blaze when you make your point and are acknowledged as the source of having been right. The Chariot is when you are proven correct. This is the card of victory. You are empowered to take charge because you are acknowledged as having won. This is your moment in the sun.

Q

Group 2 of Major Arcana, Upright: The Transformation Cards (Number 8 Through 14)

A

Tarot’s Major Arcana: The Transformation Cards

The Tarot Deck includes 78 cards. Each of these carries a special message and unleashes a particular energy when they appear in your Tarot reading. The most important cards in the deck, though, are the members of the Major Arcana. These 21 cards are unique forces of nature. They indicate core personality traits, motives and themes that you may encounter in the future.

The first seven cards of the Major Arcana deal with the theme of personal empowerment. Cards numbered 8 through 14 are the second of three sets within this group of powerful cards. This set of cards deals with the subject of transformation.

Change is a constant in the world, so how we deal with it determines the outcome of many situations we will face in life. Sometimes we resist the natural evolution of things and are able to remain comfortable. Other times we stay still for just a minute too long and lose all of the momentum we have recently gained. One of these Tarot cards describes the transformation you will undergo.

Strength

Card number 8 of the Tarot represents the change that can occur when you exercise your options. This card manifests as standing your ground and fighting, staying committed to a cause, and having the willpower to abandon bad habits. When this card represents another person, it can be a lawyer or patron at your side. If it reflects you, the change you are about to undergo will leave you more self-assured than ever.

The Hermit

This card is numbered 9. This is the card that transforms you by isolating your development. This might be a physical separation ahead. Some occurrence that changes the way you relate to those around you may be the catalyst allowing you to get in touch with yourself. If this card represents another person, you will become obsessed with a single, specific artist or philosopher. Your whole outlook on the things you value will change.

The Wheel of Fortune

Numbered 10, the Tarot’s first double-digit card takes us for quite a spin. This is the card of dual transformation. Not only does this card indicate that you will be undergoing a great and total change, it also underscores that you will recognize the coming tide and be able to make the most of it. This card does not represent you or another person as much as it represents fate.

Justice

Justice, the card with the matching ones, number 11, represents the type of change that occurs as a final chapter. It is natural for us to strive for the world to be one way, to have wrongs righted and for the whole story to have a happy ending. At some point, though, your pursuit of justice might become an obsession. You can often lose touch with reality in the quest for your reality to be imposed upon others. This card represents the change that can occur when the facts sink in as deeply as the verdict.

When this card represents another person in your Tarot reading, it means that your life is being controlled in part by a parent, partner, boss or other authority figure. When this card appears as an indication of your fate, you will have the ultimate answer to your own destiny through your actions.

The Hanged Man

When you do nothing, the Tarot card numbered 12 is likely to appear. This is the card that represents acquiescing to your fate. Whether it is giving up and walking away, avoiding confrontation, or just dawdling, the Hanged Man indicates that your present is transforming without your participation. When you finally go to make a move, you may be in a world playing chess while you were finally ready to move your checkers chip. If this card represents someone else, a person is blocking your development by ignoring you. It is probably not even on purpose.

Death

This card bears the unlucky number 13, but the end of something that it represents is not necessarily a bad thing. When this card appears in your Tarot reading, you can be assured that the change that is on its way is going to be complete. The whole world is about to be turned upside down. You may have a new set of friends and residence in a relatively short period of time. Your day-to-day interactions are going to be permanently altered.

Temperance

The even, unshakable card of Temperance carries the number 14. Temperance allows you to cope with winds of change. It is a source of will power in the struggles you are about to face. As change swirls about, being able to go with the flow is as advanced a consciousness as you can hope to have. If this card represents another person in your life, you are looking toward a role model who can teach you how to best cope with the transformation you are currently undergoing. If this card represents you, you will benefit greatly from the coming changes.

25
Q

Group 3 of Major Arcana, Upright: The Enlightenment Cards (Number 15 Through 22 plus 0)

A

Tarot’s Major Arcana: The Enlightenment Cards

The Major Arcana is the hub of the Tarot deck. These 21 cards are the psychological backbone that reveals your future, lets you understand your present and explains your past. A few of these cards in one tarot reading add potency to the discussion.

The Major Arcana is divided into three groups: Cards 1 through 7 reveal your personal ways of empowerment. Cards 8 through 14 reveal transformations that express a coming reality. The final part of this trio expresses an evolution of empowering those around you and elevating the larger consciousness. When empowerment is universally available, enlightened will lead the way.

Most of the Tarot deck deals with personal issues, rarely going beyond one-on-one relationships. But this small segment of cards carries a powerful energy that allows you to affect surroundings beyond your immediate sphere of influence. The Major Arcana cycle that begins with controlling yourself, and moves on to adjusting to change, climaxes in influencing the course of other peoples’ lives as well as your own.

The Devil

Card number 15 looks scary, but the level of power concealed by this evil beast is an energy that can have deep impact, when harnessed. The negative side of this card is addiction, co-dependency and self-destruction. But all that dark energy is a raging furnace that can heat up a drive to become empowered in the quest to be vindicated.

If you have something to prove, the Devil card allows you the perfect voice in which to address those who need to hear your story. And this is not just a card of talk. This is a card that gets results.

The Tower

When the Tarot’s number 16 card is revealed, chaos reigns. Whole systems are upset. This card often leaves people fretting amidst the sudden and intense changes, but this is not one of the Major Arcana’s cards indicating the transformative effects of change.

This card comes later, after our consciousness has adjusted and can accept change. This card is the opportunity to benefit from the instability of others. This is the card that challenges you to lead those who need stability. The Tower is being cracked in half from forces beyond our control.

Many run and hide. Others use the situation to establish a new order of things. This is the type of empowerment that the third wing of the Major Arcana delivers.

The Star

Numbered 17, this card delivers the inspiration for you to take to the masses. Your message and force of personality are often not enough to get things across to other people. The Star, though, provides key inspiration to you, insight into what others are looking for and the serendipity for you to be able to deliver exactly that.

You are empowered to make the connection, and not just to one person. The star is an intuitive card, one that insists you follow your instinct on how to best approach people for maximum effect on their lives.

The Moon

When your emotions are under control, card number 18 may be the best card in the entire Tarot deck to draw. The Moon is a card that underscores how you emotionally connect to people.

The actual moon in the sky controls the tides and the Moon Tarot card influences our emotions as a collective being.

This is a card with an unlimited potential to nourish and heal the sad and lonely near to you. This card allows you to reach out to those most hungry for affection and provide for the need to feel at equilibrium with the universe.

The Sun

This is the card numbered 19 in the Tarot’s Major Arcana and it is the core indicator of the power of your ego. When you live and die by your self-perception, the presence of this card allows you to carry that psychological projection to greater heights.

You might actually become that which you already believe you are. This is the card of fame and glory, success and admiration. Can you back up your feelings of greatness with actual deeds?

Judgement

The results of the outside world are revealed in Tarot card number 20. Like the Tower, you have little control over the events indicated by this card. This card speaks to final outcomes.

But this card allows you to live by the law that gets laid down and in doing so, to serve as an example of acceptance. While the Tower indicates the changes that occur under a state of chaos, Judgement appears when change is dished out in an organized and absolute manner.

The World

This final card of the Major Arcana, number 21, allows us all to soak up the good life. This is a chance to have it all and enjoy it. The time period covered in your tarot reading featuring the World is a blessed moment, and living well serves to empower all of the people you encounter, touched as they are with your good fortune.

The Fool

Numbered 0, the Fool is not considered to be part of the three stages of the Major Arcana. Does the Fool come before card number 1, the Magician, or after card number 21? There is absolutely no development taking place with the Fool and, as illustrated, he simply waltzes by the events and circumstances oblivious to anything beyond enjoying the moment.
