Major Airframe Components Flashcards
What do A/C designs utilise?
- High wing
- Low wing
- High, mid and T-tail
Two types of fuselage construction
- Monocoque
- Semi monocoque
Monocoque
Structural skin
Semi-monocoque
Non-stressed skin over frames (internal skeleton)
Which methods are used to join components?
- Permanent
- Non-permanent
- Transitional
What do stiffeners, stringers and longerons do?
Provides a base for the skin and prevent buckling
Pressurised bulkheads
Forwards and aft withstand axial stress
Non structural bulkheads
Forms divides between compartments
What does the pressure hull experience?
Hoop and axial stress during a pressurisation cycle
What does the wing mainly contain?
Spars and ribs
What is the wing shape defined by?
Ribs and longerons to which the skin is fitted
What is flutter?
Oscillation caused by interaction between CG and CP and torsional stiffness (wing flex)
Where can flutter occur?
Wings and horizontal stabiliser
Flutter countermeasures
Forward mounted engines (moves CG forwards)
When are lateral forces imposed?
Asymmetric flight
