Maintaining Life CH4 (DIRT) Flashcards
What is Photosynthesis?
The process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize nutrients from carbon dioxide and water
What is a Chloroplast?
A plastid in plant cells that produces chlorrophyll
What is Chlorophyll?
A green pigment in all green plants which absorbs light to photosynthesise
What is a Phylum Vessel?
The part of a plant that distributes food from leaf to other parts on the plant
What is a Xylem Vessel?
The part which carries minerals and water from the root to the leaf
What is a Levcoplast?
The part of the plant where protein and glucose is stored.
What is a root?
The part of a plant that is under the soil and absorbs water and minerals
How does the structure of the root help to carry out its function?
The root provides a large surface area to absorb water and minerals
What is Transpiration?
The process that involves the loss of water vapor from the leaves
What is Excretion?
Getting rid of the waste material that has been part of the body
For reasons why plants need water?
Photosynthesis, Cooling the plant, Supporting the plant, and Transporting minerals and other things in the plant.
What is the urea formed from?
Urea is formed from the protein
Where is the urea made?
The Urea is made in the liver
where is urea removed from in the body?
The blood is brought into the kidney and the kidney filters all the Urea out
Why is urea removed from the body?
Urea is removed from the kidney because it is a poisonous substance.
