Maintaining homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Components of a Feedback System
A
Receptor
A body structure that monitors changes
Sends these changes by nervous impulses or chemical signals to the control centre
Control centre
Sets the range of values in which the controlled condition must be maintained
Evaluates inputs from receptors
Generates outputs, as nerve impulses - Hormones or other chemical changes
Effector
Receives output from control centre
Produces a response
2
Q
Types of feedback
A
Negative feedback systems decrease or negate effect of original stimulus
Positive feedback systems correct abnormality by speeding up a procress
