Main components Flashcards
What are the 6 main components
Fuselage Wings Tail Assembly Flight Controls Landing Gear Engine and Propeller
What is the fuselage
Body of the airplane. connected to the wings, tail, engine, and landing gear
Many modern training crafts fuselage is semi-monocoque/ light framework covered in skin (Usually Aluminium)
Name 3 parts of the wings
Spars - one or more internal spars attached to the fuselage - carry major loads
Ribs - Roughly perpendicular to spars provide the aerofoil shape (help with aerodynamics) and stiffen the skin
Stringers - Assist ribs running parallel to the spars
What are the wings designed to do
Generate lift and are exposed to heavy loads
Monoplanes + Biplanes ?
Monoplanes are designed with a single set of wings making them either high-wing, low-wing, mid-wing
Describe a monocoque structure?
Designed where most of the weight is carried by the skin of the aircraft
What do the elevators control?
Pitch (up/down) on the lateral axis
What do the ailerons control?
Roll (left/right) on the longitudinal axis
What does the rudder control?
Yaw (twist) on the normal axis?
Where do the lateral axis, longitudinal axis and normal axis intersect?
Centre of gravity of the Aircraft
Components of the cylinder
Inlet/Outlet valve
Piston
Spark plugs
Combustion chamber
