Main Arteries, Veins and Lymphatic of Trunk an Chest Wall Flashcards
What are the main arteries, veins and lymphatics of the trunk and chest wall?
Internal thoracic artery and and descending aorta
Internal thoracic vein and inferior vena cava
Azygous vein and thoracic duct
What does the internal thoracic artery give off?
Anterior intercostal arteries
What does the internal thoracic vein receive?
Anterior intercostal vein
What does the aorta do?
Carries oxygenated blood around the body
Where does the aorta arise from?
The heart
What does the aorta give off?
Major branches to the head and neck, and upper limbs
How does the aorta lie posteriorly?
Lies just in front and slightly to the left of the thoracic and lumbar vertebral bodies
Where does the ascending aorta start and finish?
Starts attached to the heart and ends before aortic arch begins
What branches from the ascending aorta?
Right and left coronary arteries
At what vertebral level does the aortic arch begin and terminate?
Vertebral level T4
What branches from the aortic arch?
The brachiocephalic artery (on the right side), the left subclavian vein artery and the left common carotid artery
What is the descending aorta split up in to?
Thoracic and abdominal part
What branches from the thoracic descending aorta?
Bronchial, mediastinal, oesophageal, pericardial, superior phrenic, and intercostal arteries
What do the branches that form from the abdominal descending aorta supply?
The diaphragm, adrenals, kidneys, gonads and the gut tube
What does the abdominal aorta bifurcate into?
The common iliac arteries
