magnification Flashcards
1
Q
What is the magnification formula?
A
magnification= image size (ruler)/ actual size (scale bar)
2
Q
What is the formula for actual size?
A
actual size= image size/ magnification
3
Q
How are light microscopes used?
A
They use visible light and a combination of lenses.
4
Q
What may be applied to make some structures more visible?
A
Satins or dyes.
5
Q
What should be kept in mind when drawing a microscopic structure?
A
- a title should be included to identify the specimen (e.g. name of the organism, tissue, or cell)
- a magnification or scale should be included to indicate the relative size
- identifiable structures should be clearly labelled (drawings should only reflect what is seen, not idealised versions)
