Magnets and Electricity Yr 8 Flashcards
What is current?
The flow of electrons per second
What is current measured with? In series or parallel?
An Ammeter in series
What is current measured in?
Amps (A)
All around a series circuit, Amps….?
Stay the same
Get bigger
Get smaller
Stay the same
In a parallel circuit, Amps…?
The number of amps split between the branches
What is potential difference?
The difference between the amount of energy that the electrons carry in two points of the circuit
What is potential difference measured in?
Volts or V
What is potential difference measured with? In series or parallel?
A voltmeter in parallel
What happens if you add another bulb to a series circuit?
The bulbs get dimmer
What happens if you add another bulb on another branch in a parallel circuit?
The bulbs get brighter
Why does the north and south poles on the earth sometimes change?
Because the poles are caused by molten metal in the earths core and it moves
What metals can be magnetised?
NICS
Nickel
Iron
Cobalt
Steel
