16
Q

What is a conductor?

A

Allows electricity to flow easily ex: copper, iron, aluminum, gold metal.

17
Q

What is an insulator?

A

Do not allow electricity to flow easily thru it. Ex: wood, rubber, plastic, glass.

18
Q

A substance can have the following 6 things:

A

-A positive charge ( proton)
-A negative charge ( electron)
-No Charge ( neutron)
-Opposite electrical charges will attract each other.
-Similar electrical charges will repel each other.
-Charges look to neutralize each other or become neutral.

19
Q

What are 3 reasons someone might get shocked when touching something?

A
  • when a static charge has accumulated ( builds up) on an objet, the object wants to become neutral.
-If an object with an opposite charge is close, a static discharge occurs.
-This transfers its charge into another object in order to become neutral.
Examples: carpets, dryer, lightening ( discharge of electricity).
20
Q

Why does lightening occur?

A

-Lightening is the extreme form of static discharge.
-Negative & positive charges separate in a cloud.
-A discharge from negative to positive occurs ( an example of static electricity).
-The negative charge in the cloud meets the positive charge on he ground and a lightning bolt occurs.
