What are magnets
The materials that have the property to attract other materials (magnetic materials)
What are magnetic materials
The materials which are attracted by a magnet
Examples of magnetic and non-magnetic materials
magnetic : iron, nickel (most metals)
non-magnetic : gold, copper, wood, plastic, paper
Practical to see magnetic field lines
Put magnets under piece of paper
Sprinkle iron fillings on top
Tap paper until iron fillings show pattern
(use compass to identify direction)
Where is the magnetic field strength the strongest on a magnet
At the poles

The space around the magnet which experiences a force
Uniform magnetic field
Parallel lines with equal spacing from north to south
Induced magnetism
the presence of the permanent magnets makes some magnetic materials to become temporarily magnetized
