Magnetism Flashcards
1
Q
Magnetic field
A
A region of space where a magnet or a ferromagnetic material will experience a force
2
Q
Domain
A
A region of an object where the magnetic fields due to individual electrons line up
3
Q
Ferromagnetic
A
Materials that contain magnetic domains
4
Q
Magnetosphere
A
A region of space containing the Earth’s magnetic field lines.
5
Q
Domain theory of magnetism
A
Electrons spin so atoms of iron behave as small magnets with their magnetic fields pointing in all directions. When they become aligned they form small regions of stronger magnetism, called magnetic domains. If all these domains line up in the same direction, the substance as a whole becomes magnetised.
