Q

Domain theory of magnetism

A

Electrons spin so atoms of iron behave as small magnets with their magnetic fields pointing in all directions. When they become aligned they form small regions of stronger magnetism, called magnetic domains. If all these domains line up in the same direction, the substance as a whole becomes magnetised.
