Magnetism Flashcards
Flemming’s Left Hand rule
Thumb = Force (F)
Index = Magnetic field (B)
Middle = Current (I)
(FBI)
Increasing magnetic field
Increase strength of magnet
Increase number of turns on the coil
Increase current in the wire
What is a Solenoid
What is an Electromagnet
A coil of wire which when current passes through creates a strong magnetic field
(Electromagnet is when an iron core is added to the solenoid increasing the strength of the magnetic field)
What happens if the current is reversed
The Force of the magnet reverses
Difference between Induced and Permanent Magnet
Induced Magnet : Becomes magnetic when placed in a magnetic field
Permanent Magnet : Produces its own magnetic field
Magnetic materials
Steel
Iron
Nickel
Colbalt
