magnetism Flashcards
what is an induced magnet
an induced magnet is a magnetic material that acts as a magnet when placed in a magnetic field
how can we increase the strength of a solenoid
increase the current
increase the number of tunrs of the wire
use an iron core to make it an electromagnet
where can electromagnets be found
in a relay and an electric doorbell are the two main examples
what is the formula for force regarding magnetic flux density
force (N) = magnetic flux denstiy (T/ tesla) * current (A) * length (m)
whaqt do we use to ensure that the motor turns the correct way around
a split ring commutator
how does an electric motor work
there is a loop of wire between two magnets gausing a force upwards and downwards causing the wires to spin. when the wires reach 90 degrees we reverse the direction fo the current using a split ring commutator to cause the motor to cntinue to turn in the same direction
