Magnetism Flashcards

Q

What is the Science behind magnetism?

A
  • A spinning electron creates a magnetic field called a dipole that contains both a north and a South Pole.
  • When the majority of electrons spin in the same direction, the material has the potential to be magnetised.
  • If the material does not have a large portion of electrons spinning in the same direction, then it has less potential to be magnetised because oppositely spinning electrons neutralise each other individual magnetic fields.

Q

Are alloys magnetic?

A

•Alloys are only magnetic if they contain a decent amount of a magnetic material

For example an alloy with iron would be magnetic
