The rebel Barons were not able to capitalise on their positions by increasing the territory they owned, in fact John put Rochester castle under siege in December 1215, which was a in a strategically important place in the south.

Prince Louis landed on the south coast, at Sandwich in Kent, on 21st May 1216. People, even John’s half-brother began to defect and pay homage to Louis.
how did john die
John moved north in September, as the Civil War was in full flow, to relieve his sheriff at Lincoln Castle. By this time he was suffering from dysentery and he died on on the night of 18th October 1216.
