- Tries all summary offences
- Conducts Plea before Veue & Mode of Trial Hearings in TEW offences
- Trials of such offences where they have sentencing power & D chooses the MC

A
- Issues search & arrest warrants to police
- Grants bail to D
- Hears cases in relation to 10-17 year olds in Youth Court

Maximum sentence of Magistrates Court
A
- 6 Months or 12 months where D is charged with 2 TEW offences

Jurisdiction of Crown Court
A
- Tries TEW offences where magistrates do not have sufficient sentencing powers to deal with the case
- Or where D chooses CC Trial
