The Lord of chief appoints magistrates
This power is delegated to the senior presiding judge

Recruitment
- adverts are placed on local buses and in papers to gain a wide range of appokicnats
- open evenings at local events
Qualification
There are formal recruitments - age restrictions
They must be 18-65, but can still sit until they are 70
Not many young people are appointed
