Magee Info Flashcards
What are the two phases of the gait cycle
Swing phase
Stance phase
Describe the swing phase
Initial swing (acceleration)
Mid swing
Terminal swing (deceleration)
Describe the stance phase
Initial contact (heel strike)
Load response (foot flat)
Mid-stance (single leg stance)
Terminal stance (heel off)
Pre-swing (toe off)
List some of the pathological gaits
Antalgic gait - limp (relieve pressure from affected leg)
Arthogenic gait - circumducted (due to stiff leg)
Ataxic gait - feet slap ground
Trendelenberg - pelvis drops (due to weak abductors)
What are the normal types of end feel
Bone to bone
Soft tissue approximation
Tissue stretch
Describe the oxford scale
0 = no contraction
1 = visible/palpable contraction but no movement
2 = movement with gravity eliminated
3 = movement against gravity only
4 = movement against gravity & some resistance
5 = movement against gravity & full resistance
Describe the different pulse characters
0 = absent
1 = difficult to palpate
2 = easy to palpate
3 = increased
4 = strong
Describe scapular dyskinesia
Normally due to an excessively protracted scapular during arm motion
4 main types
Can cause changes in glenohumeral joint angulation & stress on ligaments
