Function of carbohydrates
They provide the body with dietary energy and dietary fibre
Function of fat
Keeps you warm and protects the body
Function of protein
Growth, repair and renewal of cells
What does fibre do
Helps to improve the digestive health and prevents constipation
What does sodium do
Needed for regulating fluid balance in the body.
What does calcium do
It is vital for strong teeth and bones, blood clotting and muscle function.
What does Iron do
It is needed for haemoglobin in red blood bells which carry oxygen around the body.
What is calcium found in
Milk,cheese and dairy products and bread
What is Iron found in
Liver, red meat, eggs, fish pulses, nuts, dried fruit, whole grains
What is fibre found in
Wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta,brown rice, fruits and veg
Water
Water is also vital to prevent DEHYDRATION, but this isn’t a nutrient as it does not provide any other goodness.
Vitamins
Vitamins can be divided up into fat and water soluble.
