Q

answering technique for describing how bond between monomers is formed

A
  • name of bond
    • e.g. B (1,4) glycosidic bond, phosphodiester bond
  • formed between … of one monomer and … of another monomer
    • e.g. bet C1 of 1 glucose monomer and C4 of another glucose monomer, bet 5’-P grp of 1 nucleotide and 3’-OH grp of another nucleotide
  • condensation reaction joining the 2 monomers tgt with removal of one water molecule
  • reaction is catalysed by enzymes
    • be specific if it’s a known enzyme

Q

reasons cellulose is synthesised at cell surface membrane and not inside cell

A
  • cellulose molecule may be too large to pass through cell membrane
  • cellulose is insoluble in hydrophobic core of phospholipid,
and thus cannot pass through it
  • cellulose is a macromolecule found outside cell as part of the cell wall,
and thus it’s easier to synthesis at cell surface membrane and then simply deposit it at cell wall
