Macrogeneration Flashcards

1
Q

How is electricy produced by a turbine

A

Convection current in the air is caused by the suns heating of the earth
Each air particle adds a samll force on the blade of the turbine
Inside the turbine electricity is produced which cam be used locally or in the national grid

Q

Traditional fossil fuel power plant energy creation

A

Fuel gets combusted in the furnace to release the chemical energy (thermal)
The thermal energy increases the heat of the water in the furnace
Water evaporates at 100°C
Steam enters turbine with loads of energy and collides with the fins of the turbine and loses energy
Hot steam enters cooling towers - losing energy and condenses into water then goes back into the furnace.

Q

Indirect renewable energy source

A

These take energy from a renewable source such as the sun using a physical characteristic of the material being used, and convert this energy into electrical energy.
