A

Absorbed by duodenum/proximal jejunum

A

Anti epileptics (phenytoin, valproate)
Methotrexate
Trimethoprim
Sulfasalazine

How treat folate deficiency?

A

Assess for underlying cause

Give folic acid 5mg/day for 4 months
Never give without B12 unless sure pt has normal B12 level (prevent subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord)

Neurological:

Management of B12 deficiency?

A

1mg IM hydroxycobalamin:

3 times each week for 2 weeks
Then once every 3 months

Treat B12 before folic acid if also folic acid deficienct
