Machines Ch 9 Flashcards
Fulcrum
Point around which a lever turns
Load
Such as the weight of an object
Effort
Forced used to cause movement
First Class Lever
A lever with the fulcrum between the effort and the load
Second Class Lever
Lever with the load between the effort and the fulcrum
Force Multipliers
A simple machine that supplies a greater force than the effort used
Mechanical Advantage
The advantage of force multiplying levers or other machines as defined by load/effort
Third Class Levers
Lever with the effort between the load and the fulcrum
Speed Multipliers
A simple machine that increases the speed of the object
Kinetic energy
Energy that is produced from being in motion
Potential energy
Energy that is stored
Levers
Simple machine consisting of a long rigid object that moves around a Turning point
Wedge
Help us to split or penetrate objects
Screw
A type of nail that has an inclined plane
Thread
The swirly part of a screw
