Used to sand smooth wood, Often used on intricate details
What is this?
Bench Grinder
What is this?
Polishing Machine
Used to help polish metal
What is this?
Planer Thicknesser
Used to ensure consistant thickness in sheet materials (wood)
What is this?
Table Router
Used for routing large materials - Doors / Edging on timber for example
What is this?
Milling Machine (CNC)
What is this?
Milling Machine (Manual)
What is this?
Pillar Drill
Used to drill precisely through materials
What is this?
Mortice Machine
Used to cut square or rectangular holes in materials
What is this?
Wood Lathe
Used for turning / shaping / sanding wood
What is this?
Central Lathe (Manual)
Used for cutting threads / gears into metal
What is this?
Central Lathe (CNC)
Precise computer controled metalwork lathe
What is this?
Foot Guillotine
Used for cutting or bending metal sheets
What tool would you use to cut angles into wood. For example create a 45 degree angle?
Mitre Saw
If you needed to cut a large sheet of plywood in half, what tool would you use?
Table Saw
What tool would you use to cut out details, like on a toy for example
A Bandsaw
What tool would you use to cut through some metal pipework
A Metal Cutting Chop Saw
What tool would you use to cut through some metal pipework
A Metal Cutting Band Saw
How would you clean up the edges of a piece of vacuum formed plastic
Use a Vacuum Form trimmer - Otherwise known as a Gerbil
What tool would you use to smooth or shape the edges of a piece of timber
Disc Sander
What tool could be used to finish off an inside cutout like the one we see here in the toy dog?
A Bobbin Sander
What tool could we use to sharpen metal tools
A Bench Grinder
What tool could we use to use to help a piece of jewlwery sparkle?
A Polishing Machine
What tool should we use to ensure that our wooden sheet materials are all the same thickness?
A Planer Thicknesser
What tool could we use to create a groove in a piece of wood
A table router
We need to create ten identical wormgears out of metal. Which tool should we use to ensure they are all acurately idential?
A CNC Milling Machine
We have a piece of metal rod which we need to alter to add a screw thread onto. Which tool could we use?
A Manual Milling Machine
What tool should we use to drill or punch a hole acurately into a piece of wood
A Pillar Drill
What tool should we use to create a square or rectangular hole in a piece of wood. To make a mortice and tenon joint for example.
A Mortice Machine
What machine could we use to make a baseball bat out of a wooden rectangular cuboid?
Use a Wood Lathe
What tool could we use to cut grooves into pieces of metal?
A manual central lathe
If I needed to create several identical metal chess pieces, what tools could I use?
A CNC Central Lathe
The Computer ensures that each piece is identical
How could I cut large metal sheet materials. Is there a machine I could use. What is it called?
A Foot Guillotine
Pillar Drills can have their speed adjusted. What is the purpose of this?
The larger the hole, the slower the speed is usually a decent guide to judge this. Also, the materials being cut through will dictate the speed. Metal will require a slower speed than wood, for example.
