What is the Max Ordinate
Highest point of trajectory between muzzle and the base of the target. Usually 2/3 of the range.
What is the Cone of Fire?
Pattern a burst of fire makes in the air on it’s way to the target.
What is the beaten zone?
Elliptical Pattern forme on the ground by the impact of the rounds.
What is the danger space?
Space between the MG and target where the trajectory is less than 1.8m above the ground.

Fire in wider distance than lateral
What is free gun?
Rapid major changes in direction and elevation.

- Frontal Fire
- Flanking Fire
- Oblique Fire
- Enfilade Fire
What is frontal fire?
Long axis of the beaten zone is in line with the target at a right angle.
What is flanking fire?
Gunner is on the flank of the target
What is oblique fire?
Fire at anything other than a right angle.
What is enfilade fire?
The long axis of the beaten zone covers the long axis of the target.
What are applications of fire?
Methods used to cover a Target area
What is the application of fire for a point target?
Fixed fire.
What is the application of fire for area targets?
Gunner fires center mass, then traverses and searches.
What is the application of fire for linear targets
Initial point of aim is in the middle, then gunner adjusts.
What is the application of fire for a deep target?
Searching fire
