Act 2 Scene 1

A

Banquo and son ( Fleance ) are going to bed when they encounter Macbeth, who is preparing to kill Duncan
-He sees an imaginary dagger and it points to Duncan’s room.
-He is called upon a “knell” which is a funeral bell. This foreshadows what is going to happen.
AMBITION HAS INCREASED BEYOND BELIEVABLE.

Act 2 Scene 2

A

DUNCAN IS DEAD
-Macbeth is regretting actions and Lady Macbeth takes daggers from him
-She takes daggers cause Macbeth forgot to put them on guards bodies.
-He is fulfilled with undeniable guilt and regret and tries to wash the blood of his hands.
-The blood is too much to wash of, so guilt arises even more.

-Macbeth is filled with guilt, regret.
-The other thanes see him as extremely weak and vulnerable.
-Lady Macbeth strange behaviour startles wife as well she tells him to calm down.

-They all prepare for another meeting with Macbeth

-Lennox and other unnamed lords discuss the state of affairs.
-Malcolm is in England.
-Macduff joins them
-ALTOGETHER, THEY PLAN TO OVERTHROW MACBETH AS KING AS HE IS WEAK, FEEBLE AND DECIEVING and lied about not killing Duncan.

A

-The witches assemble to meet Macbeth.
- They promise to answer his questions as he is preoccupied and wants to know the truth about what is going to happen in his future.
Macbeth apparitions:
-Beware of Macduff, the Thane of Fife.
- For none of women born shall harm Macbeth.
- “Until great Birnam wood comes to Dunsinane hill”. THIS MEANS THE WOODS COME TO THE CASTLE.
-Macbeth hubris increases due to these being unlikely to happen.

Lady Macduff explains to son why Macduff has fled to England.
-Messenger tells them to leave
-MACBETH SENT MURDERERES TO KILL MACDUFF FAMILY AND SLAIN ALL FOF THEM.

-Malcolm and Macduff test each other loyalty.
Macduff FULL of anger AS HE FINDS OUT ABOUT HIS FAMILY DEAD.
-Everyone is against Macbeth and wants to murder him.

Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking, dreaming of the death of Duncan.
-THIS EMPHASISES HER REGRET AND GUILT.
-She has been taken by the spirits and unleashed into hell, the femininity has returned to her.

A section of army marches towards DUNSINANE
-Leaders discuss about Macbeth and he is powerful, the ARMY ARE SCARED AND SHOW PANIC.

Macbeth hears about approaching army and enemies from England, mainly Siward, Lennox and Macduff and Malcom.
-Macbeth hears Lady Macbeth is suffering, it phases him a little.
-Macbeth goes to battle.
-Macbeth tells Seyton to prepare.
-Seyton is symbolic of devilish actions.
