- appearance of witches
- Macbeth and Banquo have defeated two separate armies
- encounter the witches as they cross a moor
- witches say that Macbeth will be thane of cawdor and king
- Banquo’s children will be kings
- Macbeth is told he is thane of cawdor
- lady macbeth receives his letter
- desires to be made powerful by spirits
- wants him to murder Duncan
- macbeth is uncertain at first but goes ahead
- becomes King
- Macbeth orders Banquo killed without telling Lady Macbeth
- sees his ghost and starts to feel guilt
- goes back to the witches for another prophecy
- orders Macduff’s wife and children killed
- Lady Macbeth starts sleepwalking
- Macduff and Malcolm invade Macbeth’s castle with an army
- Macbeth receives the news that Lady M has died
- is slain by Macduff
