Macbeth And Lady Macbeth Relationship Flashcards
“She should have died hereafter”-Macbeth
I-Macbeths response can be interpreted in different ways,(As he is facing attack from the English, he has no proper time to grieve for her.(she should not have died to soon-she died too young.
“Be innocent of the knowledge dearest check, till thou applaud the deed”
MB wants to conceal things(he loves her and wants to protect her from Banquos murder until he knows it is successful. This is suggested by the endearment “dearest chuck”(it is a symptom of the fact they are becoming emotionally distant.
“Quite unmanned in folly”
L.- verb . LMB mocks MB for being un masculine in his fears after he appears to see Banquos ghost at the banquet; she fears he will be foolish enough to betray the murder to the other Thanes, causing tension which could in turn cause an emotional wall to build up between them
“Dearest partner of greatness”
The superlative adjective indicates how much he loves her.
C. Sees her as his equal ‘partner’ unusual in Jacobean eras as it was a patriarchal society where men had power
MB-“My hands are of your colour but i Shame to wear a heart so white”
C. MB knows he has damned himself by killing Gods representative on Earth. His guilt creates tension
L. White symbolises cowardice and she thinks he is a coward to his reaction for killing Duncan which is ironic as she washes blood is off her hands whilst sleepwalking b4 she kills herself
C. She mocks his masculinity which is a grave insult to his ego as he is a warrior
She asked him to act as a “flower” but a “serpent” underneath
Showing she has a heart of deceit and she might be using him as a puppet showing the controlling manner of the relationship
