It’s a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero, this can be seen with Macbeth’s ambition as it leads him to be king but this also leads him to his death

It means to kill a king or Queen

When the Jacobeans belied God chose the King to rule, this was seen as the worst crime possible as it went against God
How did Jacobeans see suicide?
Many Jacobean’s were catholic and it was thought Suicide was a sin which would send you to hell

Men were seen as superior to women and were supposed to have more power in the relationship

It’s when Scottish men were supposed to be brave and ruthless and women maternal and caring

‘Lesser than Macbeth, and greater’ - Oxymoron (he’s greater because he’s more moral but lesser as he doesn’t have the same achievements)

‘This castle hath a pleasant seat’ he’s unaware he will be murdered (ironic since he’s complimenting the castle but he dies there)
