Hard Drive v.s Solid State Drive
- traditional spinning hard drive (HDD) is the basic nonvolatile storage on a computer
- (SSD) The flash memory chips store your data and don’t require constant power to retain that data.
- An SSD-equipped PC will boot in seconds, certainly under a minute.
- A hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will continue to be slower than an SSD during normal use
- If you’re rough on your equipment, an SSD is recommended.
- Even the quietest HDD will emit a bit of noise
- SSDs make virtually no noise at all, since they’re non-mechanical.
What is Hyper-Threading
- (Intel Core i7 only)
- allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core.
- quad-core iMac has eight virtual cores, all of which are recognized by OS X.
- extra threads are useful in demanding software.
iCloud Definition

What is Turbo Boost 2.0
- dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload
What does the clock speed mean?
ex: 2.7GHz Processor
- A measure of how quickly each core on a processor can handle operations, generally speaking.
- higher clock speed means better performance
What is cached data?
- a component that stores data so future requests for that data can be served faster
- the data stored in a cache might be the results of an earlier computation, or the duplicates of data stored
- Cache is like a drawer under your desk you can drop extra items you need a lot into, allowing you to grab them quickly when you need them without having to ask RAM for them
- Whenever the CPU finds that it keeps on using the same data over and over, it stores that data in its cache.
What is Flash Storage

- faster CPU performance from Core i7 than Core i5
- Core i7 processors have larger cache (on-board memory) to help the processor deal with repetitive tasks faster
