M2 Dynamics Flashcards
Newton’s first law of motion
- Law of Inertia.
- An object will continue in its current state of motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Newton’s second law of motion
F = ma
Newton’s third law of motion
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Coefficient of friction
Ff = mu x FN.
Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem
W = change in EK.
Conservation of mechanical energy
change in EK + change in U = 0
mv2/2 - mu2/2 + mgh = 0.
Momentum
amount of inertia an object has. p = mv.
Impulse
change in momentum I = change in p = F x change in t
Conservation of momentum
Applies to elastic (no kinetic energy lost) and inelastic collisions.
sum of mv (before) = sum of mv (after)
Conservation of kinetic energy
Only applies to elastic collisions. mv2/2 before = mv2/2 after
