The functions of the contract administrator include:
- Change management
- Specification interpretation
- Adherence to quality requirements
- Inspections and audits
- Warranties
- Performance reporting
- Records management
- Seller management and performance evaluation
- Production surveillance
- Approval of waivers

A significant amount of a contract administrator’s time is spent handling change requests.
What is a change request vs a change order?
There is significant overlap in the use of Change Requests (CR’s) and Change Orders.
Typically CR’s trigger an impact analysis on the effect of the change on the project, which is needed before any approval.
Change Orders imply the authorization exists for the change, unless it is called a Change Order Request.
