Lymphoma Flashcards
What can Hodgkin lymphoma be further classified into?
Classical Hodgkin lymphoma and
Nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma
Which out of Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-hodgkin’s lymphoma has a generally better prognosis?
Hodgkin
Describe the age distribution of hodgkin lymphoma
bimodal- young adults and the elderly
What is the most common subtype of classical Hodgkin lymphoma?
nodular sclerosis
What are the 4 subtypes of classical hodgkin lymphoma?
nodular sclerosis
lymphocyte rich
lymphocyte depleted
mixed cellularity
Which virus that causes glandular fever is Hodgkin’s lymphoma associated with ?
EBV
What is the most aggressive subtype of classical Hodgkin lymphoma?
lymphocyte depleted
What type of Reed-Sternberg cells might you see in nodular sclerosis ?
lacunar cells (small nucleus, big cytoplasm)
What are the neoplastic cells in Hodgkin lymphoma called?
They can be Hodgkin cells
Or Reed-Sternberg cells- these are multinucleate
If the lymph nodes are tender and mobile, is it likely to be Hodgkin’s?
no. It is likely to just be reactive lymphadenopathy due to infection
Describe the lymph nodes in lymphoma
swollen, fixed and non-tender
Describe the symptoms of classical Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Painless cervical lymphadenopathy
fever, night sweats, weight loss
(in the nodular sclerosis subtype mediastinal lymphadenopathy is common)
How is Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed ?
lymph node biopsy
How is classical Hodgkin lymphoma treated?
either chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy
What cell type is present in Hodgkin lymphoma, but not present in non Hodgkin?
Reed-Sternberg cells
