Lymphoma Flashcards
Ann arbor staging classification..what is at
anatomic staging system that parallels with non hodgkin lymphoma and hodgkin dz
Ann arbor stage 1
single lymph node or single lymphatic origin
Ann arbor stage 2
2 or more lymph node regions or extra lymphatic sites on same site of diaphragm
Ann arbor stage 3
involvement of lymph node regions or extra lymphatic sites on both sides of diaphragm
Ann arbor stage 4
diffuse or disseminated involvement of more than one extra lymphatic organ w/wo lymph node involvement,
Bone marrow involvement confers stage 4 designation
Cotswold modifications of ann arbor
- Bulky dz: 33% or more of internal transverse thoracic diameter
- Number of anatomic regions involved should be indicated by subscript
- Stage 3 may be subdivided into- III(1): w/wo splenic, hilar, celiac, or portal nodes, III(2): with paraortic, iliac, or mesenteric nodes
- staging should be identified as clinical or pathological stage
- category of response to therapy
- new category: unconfirmed/uncertain complete remission
What are non-Hodgkin lymphomas
lymphocytic cancers predominately of be cell origin, with NO reed Sternberg cells
Non hodgkins lymphoma incidence
- median age 66
- more common in men
- highest incidence in US
- increased chance with Epstein-barr, HTLV 1, hepatitis C, H pylori
- associated with warm-antibiody autoimmune, hemolytic anemias
- anticipate superior vena cava dz, cardiac tamponade
S&S of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Lymphadenopathy-painless, widespread, or isolated mostly asymptomatic Fever Night sweats Weight loss Abdominal fullness- most common in BURKITT lymphoma Skin ulcers Splenomegaly Hepatomegaly
